How to choose your home entertainment system
This is not
as difficult as it seems; if you understand a few basic principles and these
basic rules apply to both audio and visual products to ensure your that you
enjoy it the way it was recorded.
The source
is the most important piece of equipment that you can buy. This initial device
is responsible for signal delivery to the amplifier and then to the loud
speakers. If it does not lift all the information from the disk or other media
it cannot pass it on for amplification. If this device distorts or is noisy this
will be passed on to the rest of the chain (Garbage in Garbage Out) GIGO. In
other words the source should do nothing more that extract and pass on all the
information to the amplification stage.
Amplifiers
turn low level voltage and amperage from source products into the power required
to drive the end product. The amplifier should not be noisy or
distort the signal in any way as this will be reflected by the way the end product
delivers information to your ears or eyes.
Loudspeakers or visual products can only act as mirrors to the information that
is received from the source and amplification stages. Buying a better
loudspeaker or a better TV will not improve the sound or visuals you hear and
see if the first two criteria are not met correctly.
The above basic principles are the tools you need to make an informed
decision.
Buying a
new high definition TV will not enhance your entertainment enjoyment if the
signal is poor and low definition to begin with.
Similarly
if you bought the best loudspeakers in the world and failed to amplify them
properly the result would be a less than satisfying experience. And yet this is
the way many people perceive as the way to solve problems in bad audio and
visual systems.
Please
apply the rules above, it can and will save you money as well as make your
entertainment system more enjoyable and realistic.
Always
remember that cheaply made products never deliver quality...
